When choosing a carpet, one of the most important things to consider, along with the size and price range, has to be its colour. You’ll be living with this carpet choice, after all.

So, how do you choose a colour that suits the room you plan to put it in? More to the point, how will it compliment the furniture of that room?

Well, thankfully, we have a few pointers to help you make wiser choices in your carpet colour.

1. Stick to One Colour

If you have a largely white room, a white or near-white carpet would be the obvious option. Of course, you won’t want your whole room to be the same colour but if the overall impression is of one colour choosing a different one may be detrimental in this regard.

2. Use Complimentary Colours

That isn’t to say different colours can’t go together! Strive for harmony by carefully selecting complimentary colours to help bring out your furniture. It helps if you have a theme, so if your room is full of “earthy” colours (green, brown, beige) then you may want to choose a carpet appropriate to said theme.

3. Implement a Soft Palette

In general, softer colours are much more pleasing to the eye. You don’t want a lovely room full of peachy colours to have a bright yellow or deep red carpet. The two will clash and it would be a massive eyesore.

4. Select Neutral Shades

Of course, the safest route would be to opt for a neutral colour such as beige, off-white or pale yellow. This is the best option for most rooms, but we understand if it seems a bit bland for some. Because of their blandness, however, neutral colours tend to be quite universal, no matter what furniture you have.

5. Think in Patternss

Patterned furniture warrants a patterned carpet in some cases. But there must be balance here. If your sofa has a calm pattern, then a carpet with a crazy pattern might not be such a good idea. However, if you have plain furniture, a patterned carpet might be just right. Solid colours tend to bring out patterns best, though.
